Fuse Keeps Blowing
Hi, have a similar or even exactly the same problem on my 98 Cooper.
Its been getting worse, now fuses as soon as I turn the ignition on. At first I suspected the break light switch, but when I had that out (foot switch both wires disconnected) It fused. The owners manual has only Reverse Light, Brake lights and Indicators listed against this fuse (C6).
Hazzards work without the fuse in place, With the car not in reverse, not indicating and the brake light switch disconnected it still fuses. Without starting the car, indicators work, brake lights shine by connecting the 2 cables directly together, so I'm thinking that rules out shorting bulbs.
Any advise appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, I found the short. Reverse light switch cable runs close enough to the exhaust that eventually wore out and seperated. That explains 2 things. 1) why it had been getting progressively worse. 2) seemed to only short after start up. As you said, the rocking of the engine probably enough to make contact.
My next question is, is it ok to just use insulated cable joiners (beneath the carpet) to connect up new wires to the switch, or do I have to trace back the original cable and change that from the source, which may be beneath the dash or in a wire loom somewhere?

Up to 1st August 78 you only needed 1 mirror. After that date, you need 2, one of which must be a right-hand mounted one, the other can be either an interior or a left-hand mounted one.
Here's a link to "the bible":

Wing mirrors drooping
One of our Mayfairs has standard door mirrors (eg http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=33004) but the passenger side mirror always droops to the ground. Is there any way of tightening it up so it doesn't do this, or do I need to by a new one?

Have you tried removing it to see what's wrong? Perhaps the casing just needs fixing with some glue?

Wing indicator
I have brought a front wing indicator loom as th holder on the old one is knackered. The new one has two bullet connecters on the end but looking at the old one i can't see where there is a connection on it .It appears to be a continuous loom with no break for a connection It is a 1986 mayfair.
Any suggestions greatley appreaciated Sean

Hello Sean,
I'm not absolutely certain, but I think it should be an add on to the indicator part of the loom?
Anyway if the wiring colours are right then this might help: -
Earth is the Black wires Sidelights are Red/Red with Green Headlights are thick Blue with Red Main Beam thick Blue with White Passenger N/S indicators are Green/White Drivers O/S indicators are Green/Red

Wing Mirror
Hi There,
Some thug kicked off one of my wing mirrors the other night and I'm looking to get a replacement - thing is the mirror in question is proving pretty hard to come by (maybe I'm looking in the wrong places ) They're similar to the torpedo ones available to buy in the store on here but instead of having 2 bolts at the back they only have one single bolt - I can stick up pics if this will help.
Any Ideas?? I've got my NCT coming up so need help so badly :o)
Thanks in Advance,
Nic

If the car was fitted with 2 wing mirrors then you need 2 wing mirrors for MOT
if it was fitted with one,,, you only need one.

one is enouth, put mine though mot with the one, one had glass smashed and it was just put in an advisary note to get it replaced. thats a 94 mini.
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_810.htm
note the or between the reqired mirrors.
just because it was fitted with something doesnt mean its reqired for mot, for example the cat on carb minis isnt reqired.

you dont need a near side mirror in a car, but you do need an off side and a center mirror. On a van you require both near and off side.

Rover K reg Mini Cooper needs 2nd hand wing mirrors
Can anyone tell me where I can get 2nd hand wing mirrors for a K reg Mini Cooper 3.1 hich is about to rust into oblivion so I don't want to pay too much. The original white ones (it's racing green and white) were ripped off one night by passing vandals. Anywhere in London.

That's bad news mate and these people need stringing up. I'd say that the O/E replacements that Mini Spares supply probably reflects the asking price of most Mini specialists now?: -
R/H Mini Spares link
L/H Mini Spares link
Or you could buy chrome replacements instead and this company seems quite reasonable: -
Holden Mini link
You only need a drivers door wing mirror for the MOT and it was a few years before I bothered replacing my passenger door wing mirror after that got stolen.
It might also be worth checking e-Bay, because someone might want to sell theirs after changing to chrome ones instead?
